Bypass Switch Supports Copper And Multi-/Single-Mode Fiber

November 04, 2009
The Niagara 2292 desktop-form-factor, external passive bypass switch family for Gigabit Ethernet integrates with inline networking servers including WAN acceleration, UTM, IPS systems, and security/monitoring appliances such as firewalls, IDS systems, and analysis probes. The switches feature passive bypass functionality and support copper, multi-mode, and single-mode Fiber Gigabit Ethernet options. They detect an inline-appliance malfunction, such as a software crash, power failure, or link loss, and automatically re-route network traffic away from the inline device directly through the network link. Once the system is operating correctly and power is restored, network traffic is diverted back to the in-line device. The switches are configured and managed via a serial connection through a control port. Other features include two Gigabit ports to create a network link and two Gigabit ports to connect an inline appliance, programmable heartbeat interval, programmable fail-closed or fail-open while in the power-off state, a dedicated RS-232 control port, and a maximum power consumption of 0.3W.
