Laser Bars Raise Efficiency Bars

March 17, 2008
Groomed for pumping solid-state lasers and direct material processing, the company's BRILASI research project unveils laser chips, a.k.a., laser bars, with improved efficiency, higher output power, longer lifetime, and better beam quality. The enhanced devices exhibit a wavelength of 910 nm to 980 nm, achieve an optical output of 120W under real-world conditions, and a typical efficiency of 70%. Also, the company will introduce laser bars that have a 50% fill factor and with wavelengths of 808 nm and 880 nm, which will deliver an efficiency of 62% at 120W. Samples of the un-mounted laser bars are currently available and those with a 50% fill factor will appear during the summer. OSRAM OPTO SEMICONDUCTORS, San Jose, CA. (888) 446-7726.
