DAC Delivers High Accuracy, Low Power Consumption December 07, 2007
Targeting precision applications, the DAC8881 is a 16-bit, single-channel, buffered voltage-output, digital-to-analog converter with linearity of 1 LSB max INL, noise level of 24 nV/vHz, and settling time of 5.0 µs. Combined with low-power consumption of 5 mW, this performance makes the DAC8881 an attractive option for industrial process control, automatic test equipment, data-acquisition systems, and communications applications. The converter operates from a single 2.7- to 5.5-V power supply and provides a unipolar output. The output voltage is based on the reference voltage selected and ranges from 1.25 to 5.5 V, allowing use in many different applications. By using an external operational amplifier for offset, the device can also provide a bipolar output with two’s-complement coding. The DAC also supports a flexible SPI serial interface capable of input data clock frequencies up to 50 MHz with 1.8-, 3-, and 5-V-compatible logic, which enables communications with a wide range of DSPs, FPGAs, and microprocessors. The device operates over an extended temperature range of –40°C to +105°C. Available now in a 4- by 4-mm QFN-24 package, the DAC8881 costs $10.00 each in 100-piece quantities.
