Otek Announces First Loop-Powered RF Transceiver
July 2007 Issue
Published Date: July 02, 2007
The LPI, deemed the industry’s first current-loop powered (4 to 20 mA and 10 to 50 mA) RF transceiver, primarily targets hazardous, short range indoor applications at distances under 300'. Drawing power from the current loop when not transmitting, the component stores its energy in a super capacitor. A microcontroller manages the frequency of transmission as well as LED indication of presence or absence of loop signal, and a battery is employed for emergency transmissions when the loop is not active. A companion receiver converts RF back into a 4 to 20 mA signal and provides LEDs to indicate reception quality. Measuring 1.75" x 2.5" x 0.8" with antenna, the LPI can be DIN-rail mounted or connected in line via two wires next to other loop-powered meters. OTEK CORP., Tucson, AZ. (877) 227-6835.
