Altera Delivers Market’s First Low-Cost 65-nm FPGA
April 2007 Issue
Published Date: April 09, 2007
Now available, the Cyclone III family ships as the industry’s first 65-nm, low-cost FPGAs. The devices deliver 5,000 to 120,000 logic elements, up to 4 Mb of memory, and up to 288 digital-signal processing multipliers at a 20% lower cost per logic element and consuming 50% less power than the previous generation. Applications include software-defined radios, digital IF and baseband functions in wireless pico base stations, video system I/O, video compression encoding, and video and image processing. Additionally, users can start designing for the Cyclone III family with version 7.0 of Quartus II design software. All eight members of the family will be shipping in production by the end of 2007. Pricing for the EP3C5E144C8 is $4 each/500,000. ALTERA CORP., San Jose, CA. (408) 544-7000.
