Secure Processor Integrates RFID And Protects Software
January 2007 Issue
Published Date: January 09, 2007
Introduced as the industry’s first secure processor that provides integrated radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, the BCM5890 device operates in a special secure mode that protects the software and the security keys that run on it from tampering or theft. Teaming up with the BCM5890 is the company’s Integrity Platform, which allows users to develop personal authentication products. The development platform provides developers with a comprehensive set of tools and standards-based APIs such as PKCS11 that promise to reduce software-development efforts. Credentials ported to the Integrity Platform will run seamlessly on the device as well as the company’s future secure processors. The BCM5890 features an ARM-based processor that is FIPS Level 3-compliant and can run both secure and non-secure applications. Its RFID tag capability allows usage in systems that employ 13.56 MHz or 125 kHz frequencies. Pricing is set at $15 each/10,000.For further information, call BROADCOM CORP., Irvine, CA.
