Summit Addresses Impact Of RoHS
newarkinone.com/rohs
Early in November, the company hosted its first RoHS supplier summit to confront the continuing impact of the European Union regulation and to prepare for new legislation
in China. One topic on the agenda, concerning North
America, is how to be cost effective in the shadow of running dual production lines and overstocking to satisfy both
RoHS-compliant and non-compliant products. Also discussed was the company's intention to launch a Mandarin language catalog in China concurrent with the March
2007 effective date of the first wave of new legislative
requirements. About 20,000 of the products in this catalog
will be locally stocked, with the rest available on short
lead times. A fully transactional website with Mandarin
content is also expected to go live in 2007. NEWARK

Panasonic Gets The Lead
Out Of Plasma TVs
panasonic.co.jp/global/top.html
Considered to be quite a feat and an industry first, the company has eliminated the lead in plasma display panels. With the
launch of the 103" PDP-TV, the company has avoided the use
of lead in all of its plasma TVs for 2006. This achievement is
said to be the result of applying several methods that include
development of new materials for the dielectric layer, electrodes, and other parts, uniquely developed additives with
characteristics similar to lead-oxide glass, and refined material composition of the non-glass components. For further information, call PANASONIC ELECTRIC WORKS CORP. OF AMERICA,

Power Supplies Are RoHS Ready
kepcopower.com
Servicing OEMs facing European requirements, the company
has introduced 14 different RoHS-compliant power-supply
model groups with a full range of dc outputs. Supporting ac
inputs from 85 to 265 Vac, the JBW series consists of seven
groups of PC-card supplies that offer power outputs from
10W to 150W with power factor correction. The triple-output MTW supplies include 15W, 30W, and 60W models
with triple outputs of 5V and ±12V. In addition to ac inputs
from 85 to 265 Vac, they accept dc inputs from 110V to
370V. The 5V output is isolated from the ±12V outputs. The
RTW series are general-purpose, L-chassis single-output supplies available in 50W, 100W, 150W, and 300W power
levels. Power factor correction and an ac-input range from
85 to 265 Vac are standard. KEPCO INC., Flushing, NY.
