Broadcom's HDTV Chip Supports 1,080 Resolution

December 12, 2006
Introduced as the industry's first HDTV silicon that supports a full 1,920 x 1,080 display resolution, the BCM3563 television-on-a-chip relies on a 65-nm process geometry to enable affordable high definition televisions. The device is compatible with the NTSC analog standard, North American digital terrestrial or Advanced Television Committee digital standard, and the digital cable television standard. In addition, it supports picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture display modes. Other features include two NTSC/PAL video decoders, with each decoder supported by its own 3D comb filter and motion adaptive de-interlacing capabilities and video processing functions for noise reduction, sharpness, dynamic contrast, and color control. The BCM3563 is currently sampling to early access customers with pricing available upon request. BROADCOM CORP., Irvine, CA. (949) 926-5000.
