PPU Changes Face Of Interactive Gaming
September 2006 Issue
Published Date: September 18, 2006
The PhysX processor debuts as the first physics-processing unit (PPU) designed to power pervasive real-time physics in PC gaming. Providing true physics interaction on a grand scale, the processor relies on parallel interactive engines to accelerate dynamic physical motion and interaction, enabling complex characters, objects, and environments that interact based on real-world, real-time properties. End users will have different experiences every time they play a game. For example explosions will be in real-time and specific to the interaction of objects, as opposed to replays of the same animation.
