12-Bit DAC Delivers Sterling SFDR
September 2006 Issue
Published Date: September 18, 2006
A 12-bit, 2.3-Gsamples/s DAC, the MAX19692 claims new standards among high-speed DACs that can synthesize high-frequency and wideband signals in multiple Nyquist zones. The device synthesizes signals up to 1 GHz in a frequency range from dc to beyond 2 GHz and delivers a SFDR of 68 dBc at an output of 1.2 GHz while performing in third Nyquist. Operating from 3.3V and 1.8V supplies, the chip provides 4:1 multiplexed LVDS inputs and a 12-bit converter core. Frequency response is configurable to optimize synthesis in the first three Nyquist zones. As a result, the device has a higher SNR in second and third Nyquist. Other features include a power consumption of 950 mW at an update rate of 1.5 Gsamples/s. The device comes in an 11 mm x 11 mm, 169 CSBGA package. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA.
