USB MCU Turns Up The Heat
February 2006 Issue
Published Date: February 09, 2006
Extending its reach into hotter terrain, the programmable EZ-USB FX2LP microcontroller is now available with an operating temperature range from -40°C to +105°C. Formatted as a fully integrated peripheral controller, the chip includes an 8051 microprocessor, serial interface engine, a USB 2.0 transceiver, RAM, FIFO, and a general programmable interface. A unique architecture handles all basic USB functions, allowing the host processor to focus on application-specific functions. Featuring a data rate of 480 Mb/s, 16 KB of memory, and up to 40 programmable I/Os, the device promises to slash dynamic and standby power consumption by approximately 50% when compared to similar MCUs. Dubbed the CY7C68013A, it comes in 100- and 128-pin TQFP and 56-pin QFN and SSOP packages. Pricing starts at $8.95 each/10,000. CYPRESS SEMICONDUCTOR CORP., San Jose, CA. (800) 541-4736.
