Cryogenic Motor Operates Down To 100 Kelvins
December 2005 Issue
Published Date: December 14, 2005
Dubbed the SQUIGGLER, the SQ-115C cryogenic, piezoelectric motor operates across a range from room temperature to a low temperature of less than 4 Kelvins. The motor had previously been validated for operation down to 100 Kelvins. In addition to the lower operating temperature, it is now available with a metal housing, which promises faster integration into users' systems. The component measures 8 mm in diameter, 12 mm with the housing, and 20 mm in length, 60 mm with the housing. Stroke length is up to 15 mm. Other features include a resolution of 50 nm, speed of 0.001 mm/s to 1 mm/s, and a force of 2.5N. With a two-week lead time, single-unit price starts at $1,500.
