Fingerprint Verification Design Enlists DSP Technology April 2005 Issue Published Date: April 04, 2005
The Fingerscan Biometric Embedded Module (BIO-EM), a fingerprint verification reference design, exploits the power of a TMS320VC5507 digital signal processor (DSP) from Texas Instruments. Authenticating users by capturing, converting, storing, and matching fingerprint images, the module is a complete, standalone design that includes two boards: a motherboard with the DSP, memory, USB port, and LEDs plus a daughtercard that hosts touch or sweep sensors from Fujitsu. The module is said to be easily customized and can operate in standalone mode. Price is $249 each/<100 and the module is available for licensing, decided on a case by case basis depending on application and potential. SHIMON SYSTEMS INC., San Jose, CA. (408) 546-2140.
