Modules Provide UPS Back Up Power
November 2004 Issue
Published Date: November 17, 2004
Described as lower-maintenance, space-saving alternatives to batteries for short-term bridge power in uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs), the 48V POWERCACHE, ultracapacitor-based backup power modules are rated at 1.6 kW and 2.3 kW. The two modules are designed and constructed to comply with Network Equipment Building System (NEBS) standards required for telecommunications installations. Rack mountable, a single module is said to be capable of supporting one complete rack of communications or other equipment. According to the company, the modules stay fully charged, recharge in seconds in case there are multiple grid power interruptions, and operate reliably for the life of the system with zero maintenance.
