Add/Drop Multiplexers Target Next-Gen MOANs
August 2004 Issue
Published Date: August 12, 2004
Anticipating next-generation metro optical access networks (MOANs), the PM5337 ADM 622 and PM5338 ADM 622 PDH optical access devices are designed for use in remote SONET/SDH add/drop and terminal multiplexers. The two devices lay claim to being the industry's first add/drop multiplexers housed in a single chip to rely on special optimizations to reduce the costs associated with a wide range of OC-3/STM-1 and OC-12/STM-4 applications. The devices share a number of features, which include SONET/SDH framers and pointer processors, PDH mappers, expansion interfaces, cross-connects, and Ethernet-over-SONET/SDH interfaces with Layer 2 processing. The devices are fabricated using 0.13 µm CMOS technology and are available in an 896-ball, 31 mm x 31 mm flip-chip, ball grid array (BGA) package.
