February 2004 Issue
Published Date: February 09, 2004
Detailed as a breakthrough in silicon compression technology, the SV-D011 debuts as the industry's first silicon-based, AVC/H.264 high-definition real-time decoder. According to its creators, the chip will make it both technically and economically feasible to deploy AVC/H.264 compression in a wide range of consumer video devices. A unique architecture, dubbed Compression Advantage, supports all video broadcast formats ranging from QCIF (176 x 120) up to and including full 720p, 1080i, and MPEG-2. Target products include cable and satellite TV set-top boxes, DVD players and recorders, personal video recorders, digital cameras, camcorders, and cell phones.
