GUI On Silicon Cuts Development Time
January 2004 Issue
Published Date: January 13, 2004
Users of the Graphical Operating System in Silicon are said to enjoy shorter development times for implementing a graphical user interface (GUI) within their embedded system designs. These time savings are achieved by eliminating the need to use complex programming tools, such as C++, to create the GUI from scratch. Control panels for the touch screen can be created quickly with an HTML editor, such as Dreamweaver or FrontPage 2000/2002, and compiled to run on the GUI in silicon. The system consists of a dedicated microprocessor, graphical operating system and a LCD controller. The microprocessor handles all the functions of the GUI without making any demands on the host processor. Since the system manages all the functions of the GUI, users can actually employ a less powerful host processor in some designs. A LCD is available for $125 each/10,000.
