Solderless Assemblies Employ Unique Connector Design
September 2003 Issue
Published Date: September 18, 2003
The company's solderless component assemblies employ what is said to be a unique elastomeric surface-to-surface, silicone rubber compression connector called STAX. The assemblies are targeted at portable devices and in addition to the component, a microphone, motor, speaker, etc., also consist of rubber boot and the elastomeric connector. The boot both holds and aligns the component to the elastomer, allowing the assembly to be compressed into the cover of the target device. The boot also acts as a gasket, sealing out the environment. No special tools are required and component-to-board heights start at 0.5 mm. Prices start at $0.60 each/100K for standard microphone assemblies. For more details, call Dan Ruba at TYCO ELECTRONICS, Willow Grove, PA. (800) 989-7829.
