EDFA Pump Laser Drives Down Network Costs
June 2003 Issue
Published Date: June 01, 2003
Promising high levels of performance and cost efficiency for optical networks, the 980-nm IP0980-120md EDFA pump laser delivers up to 120 mW without cooling. The ability to operate without a Peltier thermoelectric cooler and the use of an 8-pin mini-DIL package is said to reduce the cost and space required for the laser. The component employs proprietary structures, such as non-absorbing mirrors on laser facets that act as spatial mode filters, and epitaxial structures that provide a small vertical far-field angle. Wavelength stabilization is maintained via an externally mounted fiber Bragg grating.
