Class D Audio Amps Power DVD Receivers
March 2003 Issue
Published Date: March 01, 2003
Looking for a home in DVD receivers and lifestyle micro systems where space is very limited, the TDA892x family of single-chip, class D audio amplifiers are said to be one of the few such devices manufactured using the SOI Audio-BCD process. As a result of this process, the amplifiers are capable of handling both analog and digital power, as well as exhibit greater temperature tolerances. The amplifiers also employ a closed-loop construction to provide a total harmonic distortion (THD) of 0.02%. Other reported advantages of this closed-loop design are lower power supply costs and EMI performance that allows integration of both the tuner and amplifier in the receiver section. Prices for the TDA892x amplifiers range from $1.50 to $3.65 each/200,000. PHILIPS SEMICONDUCTORS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 234-7381.
