3.3V Transceiver Provides ±80V Fault Protection
March 2003 Issue
Published Date: March 01, 2003
Designed for RS-422/485 communication bus lines and industrial-control local area networks, the MAX3430 transceiver integrates one driver and one receiver capable of withstanding faults up to ±80V during active, shutdown, or power-off operation. The internal circuitry is said to protect transceivers from any fault condition that exceeds the -7V to +12V operating range. The device operates from a 3.3V supply and consumes less than 33 mW of power, achieved by holding the output drivers in a high-impedance state until the first transition occurs on driver enable. Slew-rate limiting is employed to minimize EMI emissions and reduce reflections, allowing for error-free transmission rates up to 250 Kb/s. Other features include a one-quarter-unit-load receiver input impedance to accommodate up to 128 transceivers on a single bus. The transceiver is available in eight-pin narrow SO and PDIPs and in both commercial and extended temperature ranges. Prices start at $2.25 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA.
