SMT Fuses Are Fast Acting And Lead-Free
March 2003 Issue
Published Date: March 01, 2003
Targeting applications requiring over-current protection in a fast-response, small-footprint package, the 467 Series of SlimLine SMT fuses are designed to comply with worldwide lead-free manufacturing standards and can withstand the 260°C ambient temperatures used in lead-free soldering operations. As opposed to other planar fuses, the new 0603 size, very fast acting fuses use no lead in either their fusing element or termination, which is composed of 100% copper/nickel/tin. Providing extremely fast opening times to protect sensitive circuitry from momentary high levels of current, the 467 Series can cut off flow to a circuit in as little as 0.02s at 300% of rated current and in less time at higher surge current levels. The devices are also said to provide superior inrush withstand characteristics (I2t) over ceramic or glass-based chip fuses. Pricing for all amperage ratings are $0.31 each/10,000.
