Consisting of the BCM3341 VoIP digital signal processor (DSP) and BroadVoice software-based voice compression codecs, the BroadVoice is claimed as the industry’s first modular two-line VoIP telephony platform that can deliver near CD quality voice service using POTS-based equipment. It is also said to improve clarity and quality while using 50% less bandwidth than standard 64 kb/s G.711 or standard telephone techniques. The BCM3341 integrates a dual multiply and accumulate, 200-MIPS DSP and memory system, FlexiVoice POTS codec, PacketSync packet synchronization processor, telephony PLL, voltage sensor, voltage regulator, high-voltage ring generator controller, and a TDM expansion interface. Other features include an expansion interface that enables cascading four or more lines for multi-dwelling unit applications. The xChange provides a suite of VoIP DSP software that includes automatic voice, fax and modem call detection, AGC, voice activity detection, comfort noise generation, call conferencing, G.168 echo cancellation, and all of the popular G.7xx voice compression codecs.
