Ultra Miniature Detect Switch Features A Light Actuation Force
March 2002 Issue
Published Date: March 01, 2002
Totally protected against overload, the KSU top-actuated ultra-miniature detect switch features a light actuation force of 0.7N without tactile effect. The SMT switch has a hard metal actuator, two large terminals, normally-open contacts, gold or silver contact plating and a long life rating of over 500k operations. The switches have been designed to be compatible with surface mount processes, making them suitable for infrared soldering and pick and place machines. Delivered on plastic packaging reels of 1,500 parts, the switches find applications in mobile phones, battery or memory cartridges, PDAs and LCD screens, and other handheld electronic equipment. KSUs can also be used as tamper switches in alarms or in electronic enclosures and in CD, CD-ROM, DVD players and other consumer electronics. KSU switches with silver contacts handle 2.5 VA power with maximum voltage of 50V and maximum current of 50 mA, while switches with gold contacts handle lower power of 0.5 VA with a maximum voltage of 50V and maximum current of 10 mA. Both offer a contact resistance of less than 100 m½, bounce rating of under 3 ms, travel-to-make of 0.5 mm ±0.25 mm with a total travel of 1.5 mm. Silver contacts have an operating temperature range of -40¼C to +85¼C, while gold has a range of -40¼C to +125¼C. Dielectric strength is 250 Vdc. For further information, contact Allison L. Turner at ITT INDUSTRIES, Cannon/Switch Products, Watertown, MA. (617) 926-6400.
