DSP Reduces 3G Infrastructure Costs
March 2002 Issue
Published Date: March 01, 2002
Designed for third-generation (3G) cellular base stations equipped with Layer 1 software, the ADSP-TS101S TigerSHARC digital signal processor (DSP) is said to reduce telecommunications infrastructure system costs by up to 50%. The device employs an all-software approach whereby the intellectual property resides in the software and not in fixed function blocks. In addition, it claims to eliminate the cost of external memory and ASICs or FPGAs. Other features include optimized chip- and symbol-rate instructions, 6 Mb of on-chip memory, direct multiprocessing support, and a broad range of third-party support.
