Lightweight Printer Mechanism Suits Portable Market

With an eye on the portable product market, the FTP-628 series printer mechanisms weigh approximately 47g in a compact, 15.5-mm profile. The printers can accommodate paper widths of 58 mm and paper thicknesses ranging from 60 to 100 µm. Effective print area is specified as 48 mm. Two models comprise the series: the FTP-628MCL053 with an automatic paper feeder, front paper-insertion path, and a platen-open release; and the FTP-628MCL054 with manual paper feed and a bottom paper-insertion path. Both units have an enclosed gearbox and a 30-conductor flex circuit that requires a single connector. And they both operate from a 4.2V to 8.5V battery. Employing a direct thermal line-dot method, the printers provide a resolution of 8-dots/mm (203 dpi) and a maximum speed of 60 mm/s. Operating life is 100 million pulses or 50 km of paper.
