Offered as the company's third generation intelligent switch fabric, the TeraStream chipset is comprised of the VSC871 queuing engine on the line card and the VSC881 packet exchange matrix on the switch card. The set is said to provide the industry's highest level of integration.The chipset supports OC-48 and OC-192 port speeds with a maximum bandwidth of 160 Gb/s. The VSC871 communicates in-band with the VSC881via integrated SerDes. A fully redundant, 160-Gb/s system requires only 24 TeraStream chips, 16 on the line cards and four per switch card, versus a typical implementation of more than 200 chips.
