Emulator Breaks On Stack Overflow
November 2000 Issue
Published Date: November 01, 2000
Claimed as the first 8051 in-circuit emulator capable of breaking on an overflow of a user-defined stack size, MetaICE also boasts of improved visibility and control features. The visibility feature means that the data from every direct write to an SFR is collected in real-time and displayed in the trace memory. Also, the SP, IE and DPTR SFR's are collected in real-time and displayed regularly in the trace memory.
The control features allow the emulator to set a breakpoint at a reasonable limit for the Data Pointer Register to alert the engineer to a problem before data corruption occurs or the program tries to write to a memory location that does not exist. These features are are said to be powerful debugging tools carried out in real time. Pricing is $5,000.
