Receiver Reduces Power Consumption In DSL Apps
May 2000 Issue
Published Date: May 01, 2000
Power consumption for ADSL applications is said to be reduced by as much as 300 mW per port with the firm's THS6072 ADSL receiver. The device targets end-to-end broadband applications and enables designers to reduce operating costs, it's claimed, by lowering the power while increasing the port density of a complete DSL solution. The receiver is suited for full-rate and G.lite ADSL line cards for central office equipment and remote terminal modems. The device is a high-speed differential receiver that consumes just 3.4 mA of current per channel. It features a bandwidth of 175 MHz and a slew rate of 230V per microsecond, as well as low electrical noise characteristics of 10 nV/rtHz and a low total harmonic distortion of -79 dB. The device uses a voltage feedback amplifier architecture and operates over a wide range of power supply voltages from ±4.5V to ±15V. The device comes in the same 8-pin, small footprint SOIC and MSOP PowerPAD packages as the previous generation chip. In addition, it is pin-for-pin compatible with the THS6062. Pricing for the chip is $2.15 each/1000.
