Low-Power ADC Said To Be Industry's Highest Performer
April 2000 Issue
Published Date: April 01, 2000
Consuming only 79 mW from a single 3V supply, the SPT7851 CMOS A/D converter offers 10-bit resolution with a sampling rate of 20 Ms/s. Claimed to be the highest performance CMOS DAC in the industry, the device achieves 9.3 effective number of bits (ENORs) of dynamic performance and a spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) of 70 dB. Other features of the new ADC include the ability to sample signals approaching the Nyquist frequency of 10 MHz, a bandwidth of 120 MHz, and a pipelined architecture with internal sample-and-hold, plus digital correction of all 10 bits. Available in a 10 x 10-mm, 44-lead thin quad flat pack for operation from -40°C to +85°C, the SPT7851 costs $3.30 each/1000. Samples and evaluation boards are available.
