IrDA-Compatible Transceiver Helps Create Slimmer Designs
April 2000 Issue
Published Date: April 01, 2000
Launched as the industry's first IrDA-compatible infrared transceiver in a sunk-mounting package that can be affixed to the edge of a pc board, the TFDS4400 device has a footprint that measures only 13 mm x 7.5 mm and an above board height of just 1.8 mm. Components integrated into this compact package include a photodiode, a high-power emitter, and the low-power analog circuitry needed for an optimized IrDA implementation.
By integrating the receiver preamp and transmitter driver stage, the device combines the functions of two ICs, thereby reducing the number of external components. The TFDS4400 transceiver operates from a 2.7V-to-5.5V supply, consumes just 1 mA in 3V systems, and costs $2.50 each/10,000; lead times run from eight to 10 weeks for larger orders.
