Manual Conditioner Restores Fine-Pitch Leads
April 2000 Issue
Published Date: April 01, 2000
No special tooling is required to correct bent or skewed leads in fine-pitch components measuring from 7 to 32 mm2 with the benchtop Dana MLCS-1, a hand-operated conditioner for restoring fine-pitch leads. With a footprint of 10" x 10", the unit can recondition packages with 0.5-mm pitch in less than 90 seconds, restoring lead pitch, sweep, standoff, and coplanarity as per Jedec standards.
To operate the conditioner, the part is first placed into a holding nest and clamped into place. The operator then moves a gear-like level through short guided strokes to process the component one side at a time. The leads are oscillated left and right and are then combed.
