Baseband Chipset Seeks GSM Handset Apps
April 2000 Issue
Published Date: April 01, 2000
Introduced as the world's first completely RAM-based baseband chipset for wireless handsets, the AD20msp430 SoftFone two-chip set allows GSM phone makers to load different software versions to support an entire family of handsets. The devices also allow designers to build applications such as GSM mobile phones, PDA-type platforms, and Internet appliances that can accommodate 2.5G communication standards, including GPRS and HSCSD.
The chipset is comprised of the AD6522 digital baseband processor and the AD6521 advanced baseband converter providing the interface to the radio and all audio, monitoring and control functions. The chips are sampling now with production quantities available in August.
